on the farm

When we were at the lake this past weekend, we found a great farm. The kids had a blast. We have to get out of the "city" and do this kind of thing more often.

Halloween 2012

Our little Flapper dancer and construction worker. A friend of mine made a hammer and screwdriver out of duct tape for Tillman... it was the perfect size and he couldn't hurt anyone. And Reese loved twirling around.
They had a Trunk or Treat at school today...
Tillman looks determined to fix something...
Tonight we had a block party. It was a lot of fun. We had dinner and drinks, then headed out Trick or Treating. This was the first year we did this and we all had a blast. It was really cute to see all the kids run up to the doors. Reese really got into it.

Tillman didn't last too long, he found a buddy and his dad to walk them around.

Homework.... Yeah

After meeting with Reese's teachers for the parent/teacher conference last week, we all agreed that she could be challenged a bit more. Her teacher showed me today what she did with identifying the beginning sounds and her teacher was pleased, as was I. She even assigned homework today. HOMEWORK??!! really??! I'm kinda excited! And Reese was really excited. He face was so precious when I asked her about her blank worksheets. She smiled so big and was so proud of herself and squealed, "I have homework, Mommy!"
So, I sat down with her at the kitchen table and she got to work. It was math homework tonight. It's due Friday, but she finished both worksheets tonight. I explained the instructions and told myself that she needs to do it on her own. If she didn't do well, her teachers need to see that. So, I let her do it on her own. (She did really well though.)

Dyslexia Dash & Hike

We participated in a 5K this morning to support Dyslexia awareness, appropriately named The Dyslexia Dash. The family all came and Reese and I ran/walked it. I saw a lot of my students and fellow teachers and families. It was fun. Reese wanted to get out of the stroller at mile 2 and run until the finish line. I was proud of her. It was fun. (I was running while taking the above pic, ughhh BLUR)

Then the family went on a small hike...

collecting leaves

After school today, on this gorgeous fall day, Reese and Tillman and I took a walk to collect leaves. Lately, Reese has been into collecting things and this was the perfect day to collect and admire the Fall leaves. When we came home, she picked out her favorite leaves and glued them on a sheet that we will give to her teachers at her conference tomorrow. I googled this quote by Chad Sugg. Never heard of him, but it seemed like a great quote for her teachers:
"Love the trees until their leaves fall off, then encourage them to try again next year." Then I wrote, "Thank you for loving and encouraging Reese."

But before you think that we had the perfect afternoon... oh yeah, Im the perfect mom, with perfect kids on this beautifully perfect day.... The above shot is of Tillman throwing a temper tantrum on the walking trail of Chastain. I didn't get the what seemed like THOUSANDS of people walking by as my kids are screaming at the top of their lungs and throwing themselves on the ground. (what do I do? take a picture of it so I can torment them later!)
Besides documenting it forever, I was really disappointed and we promptly left! So much for the picture perfect afternoon.
I'm exhausted...

Stone Mountain Laser Show

Went to see the laser show at Stone Mountain last night... the last time I saw the laser show was with my Aunt Marilyn & Uncle Steve when I was in middle school! It has not changed much at all! It was a sight to see. Don't know if I'll return to another show any time soon though. The kids enjoyed it... But Reese was not a fan of the fireworks. We had to sit so close to the rock, that they were a bit too loud.

Of course the kids had to get a glow stick, yet they didn't sell just sticks. They sold glow mohawks and butterfly wands at 10 bucks a piece! The kids REALLY liked those!

Traveled to Brevard, NC this month to visit Hubby's family. What a beautiful weekend! The kids had a blast and it was wonderful seeing family.
