I'm so excited to read Wally Lamb's book The Hour I First Believed. I'm such a huge fan of this author. You remember, She's Come Undone where everyone couldn't possibly believe a man wrote such an insightful book delving into the woman's psyche. And my favorite, I Know This Much is True, a story revolving around a set of twins one who is schizophrenic. This is the kind of book you dreaded coming to the end. I wanted more than the 800 or so pages, the characters still float around in my mind and I wonder about what they are doing now. It's fiction, of course, and based on family, the author's family (related or not). Family... always interests me...the complicated and simple relationships that bind us together, our past that shapes who we are today. And that is what The Hour I First Believed is about. The main character who struggles with his marriage and who finds out about his past when he returns home. He comes across old diaries, letters and old newspaper clippings that spans five generations.
That is all I can tell you about the book... the jacket cover goes into much more detail. Thanks to my friend Kelly who is letting me borrow the book, I now have something solid to read. Last night I crawled into bed so excited to start the book, reading each page including the dedication page. It seems like a great read already and Wally Lamb will not disappoint. I look forward to reading it. I'm such a dork because I read all the interviews and background on his publisher's website. Click here to read as well. The essays on the right hand side were interesting. Let me know what you think of the book! I'm sure I'll be blogging more about it.
