Vintage Grain Sacks

Yesterday, we all went to the Scott Antique Market to browse for furniture. It was quite amazing. Thousands of vendors selling everything under the sun. We were looking for several things including a kitchen table, bedside tables, a rug, and a sideboard. Quite a list, we are always searching. We found a great company who does beautiful work called the Bowback Chair Co. out of Snellville, Georgia who we may have do a round kitchen table. Other than that, it was pretty interesting looking at all the stuff.

One thing that intrigued me were these grain sacks from France & Hungry. One vendor had stacks and stacks of these surprisingly soft material for sale in a wide variety of sizes and designs. These vintage grain sacks came in a variety of weaves and stripe colors. They are hand woven, mostly from home spun vintage hemp. Hemp softens and lightens with age and washing. These sacks date from the early 1900s to about 1940, the cloth was fantastic and was full of character. She also showed samples of what you could do with them... pillows, slip covers, window coverings and more. Monogramming looks good on it as well.

I found them online to purchase here at Touch of Europe.

Love those! My running gadget came from breakingthetape.com. It seems so much more simple to use than some of the others I've seen.
